Would you like to get away from it all?
Do you want to relax, ramble, and hang out with friends? Then a stay at Pardshaw Quaker Centre may be just what you need. We have three separate rooms which can be used as flexible spaces for families or groups.

Indoor spaces
In the main meeting room is the communal sitting area which has a wood-burning stove surrounded by a number of cozy chairs. We keep a basket of logs by the woodburner and additional firewood in the stables. The meeting room has a large dining table, pews, and some additional tables and chairs which are normally kept folded away.
The small meeting room is adjacent to the main meeting room and contains a number of pews and a music stand.
We provide beds for up to 20: three fixed raised beds in the schoolroom, and 17 floor mattresses that are kept stacked in the corner of the main meeting room and can be spread through all rooms as required. You will need to bring your own sleeping bags, pillows, and bed linen.
The main kitchen is in the corner of the main meeting room and contains an electric cooker and hob, kettle, microwave, fridge, and freezer. We provide crockery, jugs, cutlery, pots and pans suitable for groups of up to 20. The schoolroom also contains a small kitchen with a kettle for making hot drinks.
There is no wifi on site. Mobile phone coverage can be variable.
There are two toilets on site. One is ensuite to the schoolroom, and the other is a short walk across the burial ground from the two meeting rooms. There is one shower in the stables.
After staying at Pardshaw Quaker Centre, please ensure you leave all the indoor spaces clean and tidy ready for the next group. We provide a clearing up checklist to help you make sure all clear-up tasks have been done.
Outdoor space
Our main outdoor space is Pardshaw Quaker Centre’s burial ground. This is adjacent to the main building and is surrounded on two sides by trees, with a wonderful view over the fells. It is often used for picnics.
Camping is permitted in the burial ground. There are a limited number of flat areas between the sets of graves. We suggest that at most 5 people camp, bringing the total maximum overnight occupancy to 25, but that will reduce the outdoor space available.

Other publicly accessible outdoor spaces are available nearby. Pardshaw Crag is a short climb up the hill from Pardshaw Quaker Centre, and the footpath down to Black Beck starts from just down the road. For more information please see our Location page.
Accessibility

A view of the steps down to the main meeting rooms, from the road entrance. The schoolroom is accessed through the door on the left, and is step-free.
Step-free access: The schoolroom is accessible for most wheelchairs. It has a bedframe that sleeps two, a mini kitchen, and an ensuite toilet.
Most of the site is currently not accessible to wheelchair users. The route into the stables, where the shower is located, has a single stone step and a stone floored slope without handrails. Additionally there are two small steps up into the shower. Access to the rest of the site is down a small slope and single step (no handrail) and a set of 10 outdoor stone steps, with a rail on one side only. There are three steps up to the sleeping platform in the main meeting room. The steps have a wooden handrail on one side.
Raised beds: Pardshaw Quaker Centre currently has 3 raised beds in the schoolroom area. The other 17 beds are provided as floor mattresses which are kept stacked in the corner of the main meeting room and can be unstacked and spread round the three rooms as required. Some disabled people will require a raised bed for accessibility reasons.
Toilets: Pardshaw Quaker Centre has two toilets. The toilet adjacent to the schoolroom contains a handrail and space for a wheelchair to maneuver. Larger groups using Pardshaw may need to implement a priority system to help disabled people in their group who cannot wait for a toilet.
Air quality: The two meeting rooms are primarily heated by woodburners. This means that they can sometimes become slightly smoky, particularly if the person operating the woodburner is inexperienced. The schoolroom has a partially sealed heritage lime flooring which can become dusty. Users of Pardshaw Quaker Centre who have respiratory conditions should be aware of possible issues with indoor air quality if sleeping inside.
We are currently hard at work on improving accessibility through our Safe and Accessible Pardshaw project. Please see our Progress and Plans page for more details.
Parking
Parking space for up to four small cars is just off the main road, and right outside the front door. There is a charging point for electric vehicles, with a 13A plug (you will need your own adaptor). If you are charging your vehicle, please make an additional contribution to cover the cost of the electricity you use.
